Reynard Routes AX in Saginaw
Cory Green Wins Lites Main, Molitor Wins Lites North Title
AURORA, Ill., February 10, 2007 – Robbie Reynard had a lot on his mind when lining up on the starting line for tonight’s Toyota AMA Arenacross main event. He is in a points chase with Tuff Racing’s Danny Smith for his second Arenacross Championship in as many decades. Reynard won the 1993 title. Smith did not show up in Saginaw but choose to attend the Wheeling, WV round of Toyota Arenacross instead. Both events pay the same number of championship points. Tuff Racing’s owner Dave Analak told Speed TV before the event, “with both races being equal, it was much safer for Smith to go to West Virginia then risk a sub-par finish in Michigan”.
When the gate dropped in Saginaw Reynard jumped to an early lead and would never be challenged. Team Faith’s Kevin Johnson was running second off the gate and battled a host of AX athletes throughout the 20 lap main event. Ty-Lube / Storm Lake Honda rider Teddy Maier was able to get around Johnson to settle in to second place. Johnson went on to finish third.
In West Virginia it was a Tuff rider on top of the box but it wasn’t Danny Smith. Team mate Justin Buckelew got the Wheeling Feeling winning the main. Danny Smith finished second and Jim Neese finished third.
Reynard departs Saginaw cutting Smith’s points lead to just nineteen. The Toyota AMA Arenacross final round is next weekend in Nashville, TN. Over $100,000 will be paid out with a new Toyota Truck going to the 2007 Champion.
Reynard’s team mate, Cory Green, won the Toyota AMA Arenacross Lites main event with Shane Sewell and Cameron Lansing finishing second and third. Iowa’s Kody Molitor wrapped up the Toyota AMA Arenacross Lites North title ahead of Kevin Markwardt.
