Teddy Maier Survives Saginaw
Shane Sewell Wins Lites
AURORA, Ill., February 9, 2007 – Toyota Arenacross rolled into the sub zero temperatures of Saginaw, MI tonight at the Dow Events Center. Much of the dirt used to construct the track was brought into the arena frozen. As the soil thawed the track became very soft. As a result racing surface developed huge ruts making it difficult for the riders to negotiate.
The Johnson brothers, Kevin and Keith lined up on the Ogio starting line with Robbie Reynard, Cameron Lansing, Kody Molitor and Teddy Maier racing for the weekend purse of $26,000.00. It was Kevin Johnson that grabbed the holeshot and led the first several laps before giving way to the Ti-Lube / Storm Lake Honda of Teddy Maier. Maier would go on to dodge the many lapped riders and the rutted race track. On the final two laps Reynard was able to close on Maier and challenge for the lead. With a half of lap to go Maier brake checked Reynard giving him the insurance he needed to win the race.
Toyota Arenacross was also in Wheeling, WV this evening with points leader Danny Smith and his Cernic’s team mates racing for the weekend purse of $10,000.00. Both events award the rider the same number of championship points. The duel event weekend provided high drama in both cities. Jim Neese was able to outlast Danny Smith and Justin Buckelew for the win.
With both Reynard and Smith getting second in their respective races the point chase stayed the same. Smith still leads Reynard by 22 points with just three events to go.
The Toyota AMA Arenacross Lites was much like the big bike final. Nick Vaughn jumped to an early lead but soon fell victim to the track. Kevin Markwardt and Cameron Lansing both would challenge and fall. When it was all done, Shane Sewell, Kurtis Mccabe and Cameron Lansing finished on the podium.
